It's hard to be prepared for scenes like this, in the heat of the moment, fighting for high goals and playing in a tough, close semi-final. After one of the actions, during the fourth set of the match at Atlas Arena, Norbert Huber was unfortunately hit by the ball. The JSW Jastrzębski Węgiel center fell to the court and things got very dangerous.

It is worth recalling how a similar situation with Bartosz Kurek ended unfortunately. The captain of the Polish national team in the first PlusLiga match after his return, playing for ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle, also got hit in the eye with a ball. The result? A dozen or so weeks of "Kuraś" absence and an injury that would have been really serious if the appropriate measures had not been taken quickly enough.

How was it in Huber's case? The volleyball player was first given help on the court, both by the JSW Jastrzębski medical staff and the medical services securing the event. The player, as he himself reported on social media, was taken to one of the Łódź emergency rooms.

– Life is beautiful until you have to come to the emergency room – said the Olympic vice-champion in his own style.

After several hours of waiting, late on Saturday evening, Huber spoke once again, calming the fans down a bit.

Will Huber play for JSW Jastrzębski? It seems that such a risk will not be taken, considering the player's health. Jordan Zaleszczyk provided a good substitution for Hubert at the end of the semi-final. It is possible that this young representative will replace his older, slightly battered colleague.

What is the schedule for Sunday's (i.e. May 18) fight for medals? Starting at 4:00 PM, JSW Jastrzębski Węgiel and Turkish Halkbank Ankara will play for the bronze medal. Then, at 8:00 PM, Italian Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia will play against Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie. The matches will be broadcast on Polsat Sport 1, online on the Polsat Box Go platform.

It is worth recalling that since 2021, a Polish club has always played in the Champions League finals for men's volleyball. What's more, two years ago (2023) in the game for the trophy in Turin, there was a Polish clash. ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle won 3:2 against Jastrzębski Węgiel. In 2021-23, the Kędzierzyn team won a total of three titles of the best club team on the Old Continent.

The Jastrzębie team, on the other hand, is not lucky, having had the opportunity to play in the CL final twice and having to do without it both times. In addition to the aforementioned defeat by ZAKSA, last year the then Polish champions lost 0:3 to Itas Trentino. Now they will play for the bronze medals, after losing to Jurajskie Rycerze. It is Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie that will play in the CL final, having already secured the first medal of this competition in the club's history.

In recent years, no other country can boast such a series of finalists in the most important international club competitions from the CEV stable. PlusLiga is undoubtedly in the world's top in terms of European successes. Let us add that the Challenge Cup in the 2024/25 season came to the showcase of Bogdanka LUK Lublin, and Asseco Resovia Rzeszów played in the CEV Cup final, ultimately not defending the title won a year earlier.
